Workholding and automation not just on display, but in a real production environment: that is the idea behind the new LANG showroom in North Rhine-Westphalia. At SL Feinwerkmechanik, located between Cologne and Siegen, interested companies can experience LANG technology where it is actually used – while benefiting from shorter travel distances and direct, personal exchange.

Not a typical showroom, but real production

How does automation perform in day-to-day production? Which workholding solutions prove themselves in practice? And which approaches can be transferred to your own manufacturing environment? The new LANG showroom in North Rhine-Westphalia provides answers to these questions not in a purely demonstrative setting, but directly within an active production facility.

The showroom is located at SL Feinwerkmechanik, a contract manufacturer situated between Cologne and Siegen, close to the A4 motorway. The company has been using workholding technology from LANG Technik for several years and added a LANG automation solution in 2025. The partnership is therefore based on first-hand experience from everyday CNC production.

“We are simply very satisfied with it, because it just works,” says Alwin Lindemann of SL Feinwerkmechanik, summing up the company’s experience.

When LANG Technik began looking for a suitable showroom location in North Rhine-Westphalia, the idea of developing a joint concept with SL Feinwerkmechanik quickly took shape. From the outset, the aim was not to create a conventional showroom. Instead, interested companies should be able to experience workholding and machine tool automation at a contract manufacturer and under genuine production conditions.

“What appealed to us in particular was the idea of not presenting the technology in a typical showroom, but at a contract manufacturer in a real production environment”, explains Giuseppe Semeraro, Head of Sales Germany at LANG Technik. Together, the two companies developed a concept designed to give visitors a practical insight into workholding and automation.

Shorter distances for companies outside southern Germany

In addition to the production environment itself, the geographical location was an important factor in choosing the site. For many customers and interested companies from North Rhine-Westphalia as well as central, western and northern Germany, visiting LANG Technik in southern Germany involves several hours of travel.

“We have many customers in more northerly regions of Germany who would otherwise have to travel several hours south to see our products in person,” says Giuseppe Semeraro of LANG Technik. “With SL Feinwerkmechanik, we have found an ideal location between Cologne and Siegen where we can show our customers our workholding and automation technology under real production conditions.”

The new LANG showroom in North Rhine-Westphalia therefore complements the existing opportunities to experience LANG workholding and CNC automation in person. For many companies, the key benefit is simple: shorter distances and less time spent travelling.

At the same time, the concept remains deliberately personal. Visitors are not coming to a new LANG branch or production facility, but to a manufacturing company where the technology on display is part of the actual day-to-day production process.

From workholding to automation planning

A visit to the showroom is intended to go far beyond simply looking at individual products. Companies can explore different approaches to workpiece and zero-point clamping and discuss which concepts could be relevant to their own manufacturing processes.

Machine tool automation is a particularly important part of the experience. Before a milling machine can be automated, a number of practical questions need to be addressed. How will the machine be loaded? Can the robot access it through a side window, or is front loading required? Which interface is available, and what conditions need to be met by the machine and its surroundings?

“Visitors gain insights into different workholding approaches and can consider which of them could be applied in their own company,” explains Giuseppe Semeraro. “When it comes to automation in particular, we can discuss the entire process from planning through to implementation and look specifically at topics such as machine access, front or side loading, and the required interface.”

This makes otherwise abstract questions tangible. Rather than discussing potential concepts in theory alone, visitors can see how automation has been integrated into an existing CNC production environment and which considerations played a role in the process.

Exchange between manufacturing professionals

This practical approach is at the heart of the new showroom. SL Feinwerkmechanik contributes the perspective of an experienced user, while LANG Technik brings its expertise in workholding and machine tool automation. Visitors therefore have the opportunity to discuss technical questions in the context of an actual production environment.

For Alwin Lindemann, direct exchange is also an important part of the concept. Interested companies should be able to see the technology in action, bring along their own questions and take practical experience and ideas back to their own production.

The new LANG showroom in North Rhine-Westphalia is therefore about more than presenting products. The focus is on real manufacturing challenges, practical exchange and the question of how workholding and automation can be successfully integrated into existing production processes.
